Blend Studio will be hosting new work by Ben C Vitualla during the month of October. The artist will be available on the opening night of the First Saturday Art Crawl.
Artists Statement:
My current installation explores the relationship between vulnerability and the use of guns for protection. Using pillows as structure, I reference the safe space of homes. In the background, I incorporate a flower element found in some houses in Nashville. The three black silhouettes of assault rifles are tools to protect as well as tools for crime, and suggest violence or at very least the threat of force. The work encourages dialogue around gun safety, crime in the community, power and safety, and the cultural climate of the country.
