When this project began, I was interested in understanding ways that the symbolism and ideologies of witchcraft can intersect with that of feminism. I used printmaking as a medium to explore these concepts through monotype, woodcut, and college. The result is a collective of prints that explore a tension of what is above and what is below. What is inside and what is out. Through the process of this project, I had been experiencing a decline of connectivity between myself, my body, and my community, but through identifying with the struggles of women through history and their attempts to persevere against much of the same, a space was born through which I could communicate this feeling of isolation whilst simultaneously discovering a connection to the roots of community, sisterhood, and family experienced by witches in covens. The work as a body became a study of how deities and mythologies can help guide one to safety and be a healing aid, while also exploring a psychological landscape, which has created a sort of visual language that expresses my inner eye.
