Artist Statement:
I’ve been studying cathedral architecture. Growing up on an intentional community in Summertown, Tennessee called the Farm, our church was most often a meadow. My subject matter is nature on earth and nature in the universe. With the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, we have exciting new ways to see the universe. The beauty of nature is the portal frame to something bigger than ourselves.
Painting landscapes takes me back to my childhood when I’d see the morning sun glowing through the summer leaves; that meant that the morning swim lessons in the creek wouldn’t be as chilly. In my art practice, I am seeking that magical place of connection. Last year I dreamed about a whale. It was powerful, moving the ocean rather than moving within the ocean -frightening, but exquisitely beautiful.
Painting landscapes is a meditation I offer for folks who want to live with art and appreciate beauty. I am seeking the holy art grail that is spiritual connection and want to tell the story as it unfolds.
