Blend Studio will have new works by Alena Mehic. will be exhibited at Blend Studio during the art crawl Saturday May 01, 2021from 6 to 9 PM. The artist will be available during the opening night of the First Saturday Art Crawl.
Artist:
Alena Mehic was born in Zavidovići, Bosnia & Herzegovina in 1995 and immigrated to Nashville, Tennessee with her family in 1997. She holds her BFA from Middle Tennessee State University and is expecting to graduate with her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2021. Her immigrant background greatly contributes to her body of work, which involves the research of literature, media, architecture and interior design, archives and documentary resources, and the intricacies of political performance. She uses this research to examine the discomfort of cultural displacement as well as the disconnect between nostalgia and contempt within those who lived in Yugoslavia. Most recently, she has been awarded the MFA Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture from the Dedalus Foundation in New York, NY.
